One star because it started glitching today. I haven't changed a single setting, but now it won't let me see stories, just asks me to subscribe. Tried logging out and back in to no avail. I can log in and read things in a browser or through the NYT app, but nada with this one. Almost forgot, it's never (not just since it broke today) let me post a comment through the app.

As far as content goes, I would give at least 4 stars and maybe 5 depending on the teams you follow. There's always something interesting in there to read if you're a sports fan. That is, if you can actually manage to get to the stories themselves, because this app is routinely just broken. At least once a week I won't be able to access anything in it, just get a repeating "something went wrong message" despite the app being fully updated and every single other app on my phone working just fine.

Great stories and the app is good, but would really love one change... When you get a notification that someone replied to your comment, clicking through takes you to the homepage and not the actual story/comment. I don't even bother trying to find the article at that point. Please update that! EDIT: Still need this in 2025!
